Our non-woven wallpaper murals are custom printed to your ordered measurements and installed using the paste-the-wall method. The mural is supplied in numbered panels and is installed from left to right, always beginning with Panel 1 on the left side of the wall.

📐 Made to Measure

Each mural is custom printed to the dimensions ordered for your wall.

The mural is supplied in 19.3-inch (49 cm) wide panels. Each panel is marked and numbered in the correct hanging order.

Your mural is printed according to the measurements you provided, including any extra material you added for installation. Any excess wallpaper is trimmed away during installation.

Before installing, always verify that the mural dimensions correspond with your order.

🧱 Prepare Your Wall

Proper wall preparation is essential for a successful installation.

The wall should be smooth, clean, dry, and sound.

Remove old wallpaper, loose or flaking paint, dust, and dirt. Fill holes, cracks, and uneven areas and sand the surface smooth.

For dry, porous, newly plastered, patched, or skim-coated walls, apply an appropriate wallpaper primer before installation.

The primer and adhesive must be suitable for non-woven wallpaper and compatible with each other. Allow the primer to dry completely before installation.

Before you begin, have the following ready:

✓ Wallpaper adhesive suitable for non-woven wallpaper
✓ Wallpaper primer, if required
✓ Roller and paint tray
✓ Paintbrush
✓ Spirit level, laser level, or plumb line
✓ Steel ruler or straightedge
✓ Sharp wallpaper knife
✓ Pencil
✓ Wallpaper smoothing tool or wallpaper brush
✓ Clean, soft sponge or cloth
✓ Clean water

Tip: Keep several fresh knife blades available. A sharp blade is essential for clean cuts.

Installing Your Mural

1. 🔍 Check Your Mural

Before installation, verify the mural dimensions and inspect all panels for damage or visible defects.

Make sure:

✓ All panels are included
✓ The design and dimensions match your order
✓ The panels are numbered correctly
✓ There is no visible damage or printing defect

⚠️ If anything appears incorrect, damaged, or defective, do not begin installation. Contact Scandinavian Wallpaper before cutting, pasting, or installing the mural.

2. ✂️ Cut & Arrange the Panels

Lay the mural on a clean, dry surface.

Cut the individual panels along the indicated scissor markings.

Arrange all panels in numerical order, beginning with Panel 1, and make sure the design flows correctly from one panel to the next.

Remember: Panel 1 is the first panel installed and should be positioned on the left side of the wall.

3. 📏 Establish a Straight Starting Line

Installation begins on the left side of the wall with Panel 1 and continues from left to right.

Do not assume that the corner of your wall is perfectly straight.

Measure approximately one panel width from the left side and use a spirit level, laser level, or plumb line to establish a perfectly vertical guideline.

This line will be used to position Panel 1.

4. 🖌️ Apply the Adhesive

Apply an adhesive suitable for non-woven wallpaper directly to the prepared wall.

Use a brush along the ceiling, baseboards, corners, and other areas that are difficult to reach with a roller.

Use a roller to apply an even layer of adhesive to the remaining surface.

Work with approximately one to one-and-a-half panel widths at a time so the adhesive does not begin to dry before the wallpaper is installed.

5. ① Install Panel 1 on the Left

Begin installation with Panel 1 on the left side of the wall.

Position Panel 1 against the pasted wall and carefully align it with your vertical guideline.

Leave the necessary excess at the ceiling and floor for trimming.

Before smoothing the complete panel into place, check that it is perfectly vertical.

6. ↔️ Smooth the Wallpaper

Gently smooth the panel against the wall using a clean wallpaper smoothing tool or wallpaper brush.

Work from the center outward toward the edges and from top to bottom to remove trapped air.

Do not stretch the wallpaper or use excessive pressure.

7. ②③④ Continue from Left to Right

Install the remaining panels in numerical order, working from left to right.

Install each panel edge-to-edge without overlapping.

Carefully align the design between adjoining panels and make sure the edges meet neatly.

Do not stretch or force the wallpaper sideways to close a seam.

8. 💧 Remove Excess Adhesive

If adhesive gets onto the printed surface, remove it immediately before it dries.

Use a clean, damp sponge or soft cloth and gently wipe the affected area.

Rinse your sponge or cloth frequently.

Do not scrub or soak the wallpaper.

Pay particular attention to the seams, ceiling line, and baseboards.

9. ✂️ Trim the Edges

Once the panels are correctly positioned, trim excess wallpaper along the ceiling, floor, and other edges.

Use a sharp wallpaper knife and straightedge for a clean cut.

Change the blade frequently to avoid tearing the wet wallpaper.

10. 🕐 Allow the Mural to Dry

Allow the mural to dry naturally at normal room temperature.

Keep the room reasonably ventilated, but avoid strong drafts, excessive heat, or other attempts to speed up the drying process.

Allow approximately 24 hours for the adhesive to dry, or follow the drying time recommended by the adhesive manufacturer.
