The current king of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf, has been on the throne since 1973. He is the 74th monarch and the longest-reigning king in Sweden’s history. Succession is granted to the firstborn child regardless of sex, with Crown Princess Victoria as Sweden's next heir.
