How to Hang Wallpaper

Many people assume that hanging wallpaper is difficult, but it’s actually a straightforward and enjoyable process. With the right preparation, you can achieve a professional-looking result—and enjoy the satisfaction of transforming your space yourself.

Below is our simple eight-step guide to installing EasyUp wallpaper.

How to install standard material murals – Scandinavian Wallpaper

Step 1 – Measure and Prepare

Preparation is key. Fill and sand any imperfections to ensure a smooth surface.

Start in the most eye-catching corner of the room. From there, hang wallpaper in one direction, then the other—this helps keep any slight pattern misalignments less noticeable.

It’s essential that your first strip is perfectly straight. Use a spirit level to draw a vertical plumb line about 53 cm (21 inches) from the corner (the standard width of our wallpaper).

Tip: Make sure your plumb line is clearly visible to guide your first strip.

Step 2 – Apply Adhesive Along Edges

With EasyUp wallpaper, adhesive is applied directly to the wall.

Use a brush to apply paste along the ceiling line and near the floor or skirting boards. Don’t worry about getting paste on trim—it can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.

Step 3 – Roll Adhesive Onto the Wall

Use a roller to apply an even layer of adhesive across the wall, making sure to cover all the way to the edges.

Work in sections of about 1–1.5 strip widths at a time. This keeps the process clean and manageable. If needed, you can gently lift the wallpaper later to add more adhesive.

Tip: You should be able to draw a visible “S” shape through the adhesive with your finger—this indicates proper coverage.

Step 4 – Hang the First Strip

Place the roll on a clean surface or in a holder.

Lift the first strip into place, aligning it with your plumb line. Lightly press it at the top, check alignment, then secure it firmly and trim along the top edge.

Step 5 – Smooth the Wallpaper

Using a wallpaper tool, smooth the strip from the center outward—first upward, then downward, and finally along the edges.

This helps remove air bubbles and ensures a clean finish. Wipe excess adhesive from your tools regularly.

Step 6 – Trim the Bottom Edge

Press the wallpaper firmly along the bottom and trim excess material using a sharp wallpaper knife.

For best results, use a fresh blade and change it frequently for clean, precise cuts.

Step 7 – Align the Pattern

Repeat the hanging process for each new strip.

If your wallpaper has a pattern, carefully align each new strip with the previous one. Pattern match details can be found on the roll label.

Tip: Keep your tools nearby to make installation smoother and more efficient.

Step 8 – Clean Excess Adhesive

Use a damp sponge to remove any leftover adhesive from the wallpaper surface.

Our wallpapers are washable, so don’t hesitate to use enough water to clean thoroughly. Wipe down each strip as you go for the best finish.
